Past Progressive Bluffing Card Game
A LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS
Lying game to practise was/ were + verb+ing, based on the accusations game "Liar"
Lesson Plan Content:
Past continuous bluffing card game
Deal out all the cards. You can look at all your cards, but don’t show them to other people. The first person makes a question with “When did you last…?” and the word on one of their cards, e.g. “When did you last see your cousins?” and places that card on the table. The next person answers that question using was/ were + v+ing and one of their cards, e.g. “When I was walking down the street”. Blank cards can be any verb that hasn’t been used.
If you think what was said is not true, say “Liar”. If they tell you the sentence was a lie, they have to take all the cards on the table and put them in their pack (as a punishment for lying). If the sentence was actually true, the accuser has to take all the cards on the table (as a punishment for making an accusation). If you don’t think it is a lie, stay silent and the cards stay on the table. The game continues by placing more cards on top of those until someone says “Liar”. The person with least cards when the game stops wins.
