Modals of Deduction Practice- Guess the Sport
A LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS
Students use strong and weak modals of probability to guess which sport their partner is describing, with useful names of sports and descriptions of sports phrases, and a modal verbs grammar presentation.
Lesson Plan Content:
Guess the sport modals of deduction practice
modals of deduction/ probability/ possibility and sports vocabulary practice
Choose one of the sports below and give hints about which one you are thinking of without saying its name (or any part of its name). For each hint, your partner will try to make a true statement with one of the guessing phrases below, e.g. “It could be soccer”. Continue giving hints and guessing until they feel they are sure enough to say “It must be…” (which means they think there is only one possibility from the list that it could be). Before they say “It must be…”, don’t say if they have guessed the actual correct sport or not, only say “That’s true” if the statement they made has the right level of certainty or uncertainty, or “Actually,…” if there is something that makes that statement impossible.

- It’s almost certainly…
- It’s probably…
