Well, what does 'badly' mean here, 'poorly,' 'extensively,' 'severely,' etc.?
It has to be Badly because Word Perfect says 'Normally an adjective like bad doesn't modify a verb.'
Badly, based on the fact that you could rearrange the sentence into the passive form 'I was badly hurt by him'.

"He hurt me badly" means "he tried to hurt me, but wasn't very good at it".
