How was your translation job?

Around two months ago, a friend of mine, Sam, asked me if I knew someone who understood the native language of Kazakhstan and I suddenly thought of a woman Nana who I had known. She was a student in a local university, studying Chinese here. She's from Kazakhstan. I told Nana that Sam was looking for a translator and wonder if Nana was interested in it. Nana said yes and I gave the contact number of Sam to Nana. Since then, we didn't talk with each other (because we both are busy.) Today I bumped into Nana on the street and I asked her:

How was the translation going?

Is my question natural?

It's neither grammatical or natural because you've mixed tenses.


Depending upon whether she's still translating or not, you could use one of the following:
"How's the translation (job) going?"
"How was the translation (job)?'
"How'd the translation (job) go?"
