Hi,

The following short paragraph was written by me:

Teachers should be knowledgeable and intelligent. They should follow traditional principles of teaching, but they should also have an open mind alert to new, creative ways to stimulate their students’ interest.

I wonder if "alert" here is good or do I need to say "alerting". And why?

"Alert" is an adjective whereas "alerting" is a verb. An adjective is appropriate in the context. How about "receptive"?

Did you mean "alert" is an adjective in my sentence? I thought it was a verb. Sorry.

Perhaps:

But they should also be open to new, creative ways of teaching their subject.
