At what point in a TEFL course is advisable to start applying for jobs?

My TEFL has to be completed by the middle of January, however I'm hoping to complete it a little sooner. I was wondering if I should wait until I have actually completed this or should I start applying whilst still studying. A lot of positions appear to start in January, which is why I'm worried, I don't really want to wait until the September 2012 jobs. I'm frightened that my knowledge wont be as fresh in my mind if I wait 9 months.

Any point is fine really; just indicate when you will be completing any courses on your applications and/or resumes.

Also, there are job vacancies all year, so it is not a question of having to wait until September.
