Should "a two-thirds majority" be regarded as plural or singular?
E.g.
1. So far a two-thirds majority in our community have come to the rescue.
2. So far a two-thirds majority in our community has come to the rescue.
My question is: which sentence is grammatically correct?

I would use "has" there. (American English.)

I'm trying to work out the need for "majority".

Two-thirds of our community have come to our rescue.

Both "two" and "thirds" are plural, and it's clear that "two-thirds of our community" is more than one person, so I would go with the plural verb.

Agreed. It should be Two thirds have.
