Your example sentence indicates that you understand those homophones. (I would say there means in that direction.)

You are not correct. To begin with, you have grossly oversimplified the use of 'there', plus you don't seem to understand your own lesson. Are you really sure you should be trying to teach this when you clearly don't understand it yourself?

There is quite a bit of information available on the internet about the homophones they're/their/there, but you might start by reading this.
