[Idiom] See someone through

I´d like to ask if the idiom "to see someone through (a difficulty)" is an Americanism. Thanks.

It looks vaguely British to this American.

It doesn't look particularly natural to me. Can you give us a complete sentence to work with?

I don't see anything unnatural in BrE with the idea of seeing someone through a difficult time.

Then I guess it's just a phrase I don't tend to use.

I would see a situation/project through.
I would help someone through a difficult time.

Well, that's me- all heart and sympathy. :-D
