First letter phonics miming game

Instructions for teachers

One student mimes words beginning with one letter of the alphabet such as the word in the right-hand column below until their partners guess which letter they chose. If you want to encourage them to come up with their own ideas for suitable words to mime, you could hide the right-hand column and only let them look at it if they have no ideas. To encourage paying more attention to the phonics, you could ask the people guessing to say the sound of the letter, the name of the letter and a word that starts with that letter such as the word which that person has mimed (“a, A, apple”, etc) each time that they guess.

For writing practice, you could give them a version with one column or certain boxes blanked out to complete after they finish the game.
