Lesson Plan Content:

Gradable and extreme adjectives miming game

Choose one of the rows from below and silently mime all three adverb + adjective pairs in the order that they are given (from left to right). Continue miming until your partner says all three things written on the cards, in the right order and in exactly the words given on the cards. If your partner can’t guess correctly, you can give them hints such as first letters until they get (exactly) the right answer.

Ask about any words which you can’t pronounce, are not sure that you mimed correctly, etc, working together as a class to make suitable mimes each time.

Test each other on the pairs of matching stronger and weaker adjectives:

  • Say a weaker one and stronger one mixed up and see if your partner knows which is which
  • Say a weaker one and stronger one mixed up and see if your partner can repeat back the right one with “absolutely”
  • Say a strong one and see if your partner can say the weaker one
  • Say a weak one and see if your partner can say the stronger one

Change groups. Choose just one card (e.g. “absolutely delighted”). Mime only that level of that thing until your partner guesses it, giving hints like contrasts with other levels until they get exactly the words on the card.
