A LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS
Using first, second, third, fourth, etc to say which one from lists of vocabulary is different, including lots of different useful language.

Spot the odd one out ordinal numbers practice game
Instructions for teachers
Choose which sections below you want to use, and perhaps which words you want to use in each section. You can eliminate any of the words which are not the odd one out, but you could also leave these in even if they won’t be understood as long as the students understand the odd one out. You can also add more words to the majority section if you like, but make sure that there is only word which matches the question in each section. As you read out the question and then the whole list, students count the words on their fingers then try to answer the question with an ordinal number (“The third”, “The third word”, “The third word is different” or “The third word is not a…”)
After doing the activity, you could get students to try to think of as many words as they can in the majority categories below, and/ or make up other similar challenges for each other.
