Useful phrases for reviews: discuss and agree

Choose a phrase from the next page and try to make a statement that you both agree with, changing the statement or choosing another phrase if you can’t agree.

 

Useful phrases for reviews: guessing game

On your own, fill in as many of the phrases on the next page as you can in ten minutes with your real opinions, real experiences, etc. Choose one of your statements and read out just the part you wrote (not the printed part that was there before), and see if your partner can guess which sentence you put that information in.

 

Useful phrases for reviews: bluffing game

Choose one of the statements on the next page for your partner to use. They should complete the sentence as quickly as they can. Perhaps after asking follow-up questions, guess if that is their real recommendation, real experience, etc.

Suggested topics

• place (attraction/ sightseeing spot, café, restaurant, shop, etc)
• arts and media (book, exhibition, magazine, album, concert/ gig, film/ movie, TV programme, etc)
• service (food delivery, etc)
• technology (e.g. app)
• thing (product, dish, etc)

Ask about any sentence stems which you don’t understand, couldn’t use, couldn’t agree on anything with, etc.  

Do the longer phrases task on the last page.

Change partner. Without looking at the sentence stems, try to agree on statements on as many topics above as you can. You can use the extra words to go in the short phrases to help you if you like.
