Understanding comes from comprehension, but you comrehend something. In effect I suppose that the person comprehending something is comprehenable (able to comprehend), but the object being comprehended is comprehensible. (Comprenez?)

I think they have the same meaning but are different forms... as in read (reed) or read (red), both have the same result. To comprehend or to have comprehension. Understand? Lol.

Aren't they interchangeable? The meaning is the same - capable of been comprehended or understood

I am 66 years old and, I suppose, consider old school, so let me tell you what I was told in college eons ago. The person giving the speech was comprehendible and the topic of the speech was very comprehensible.

I suppose,being 45+ years (old school), what I think is the PERSON giving the speech was comprehendible and the TOPIC of the speech was very comprehensible.So there!!
