'You and I' is correct.
It's "you and me" because here "People" is the subject of the verb; "like you and me" is a sub-clause inserted only to clarify what the writer means by "People".
I'm afraid, I disagree with you Jeremy, cos '' like '' here is not a main verb, so that ''people'' can be considered the subject. ''Like'' here simply means '' such as '', also the verb''are'' after the subject ''I'' is a plural verb and '' I'' is a single one,so it's clearly the speaker wants to suggest that '' you and I'' are not ......
